Those are some pretty good costumes! It's unfortunate that my costume is hidden because I really did dress up!

Halloween 2011
I was so dreading making the doughnuts this year. I couldn't quite figure out why until I remembered that I just made them in June for girls camp! They require so much time and effort that making them more than once a year really wears me out. Kurt suggested I just not make them. Well I know that we would have had many disappointed neighbors and trick-or-treaters if I wouldn't have made them. They turned out great and I was lucky to have Montana home most of the night to help me which made a HUGE difference. Thanks Tan! Last year we had a bunch of leftovers but not this year! By 9:30 pm there was not one doughnut left!! As it is I make 400+ of those tasty little things...
Nobody was interested in carving pumpkins but the girls.
This was as close to a costume as the three of us were going to get this year. Kurt ran in to Walmart last minute and got these cute Halloween shirts.

Halloween 2010

Montana and Em scooping out the guts.

Still rolling out batch #1

Our Halloween was pretty much the same as usual this year----donuts, visitors, pumpkin carving, etc. We had quite a few donuts left over so we obviously had fewer people than last year. The kids were excited about the leftovers though!

The Heatons dropped by for a visit. Maisy was a cute green witch. Crew screamed when Kurt tried to take his picture.

Snookie and The Situation (aka Erin & Joe Brown) stopped in.

Sommer as the 80's workout queen.

The end of an era

Paige as Cruella de Vil

Emerson the cavewoman

Sadly, today Kurt and I went to the last Halloween parade we will ever go to for our children! I have to say that I will miss it. I will miss watching all those kids walking by their parents so proudly showing off their fun costumes. I will miss the ones who are slightly embarrassed to even acknowledge their mom and dad. I will even miss the 6th graders who are soooo old and too cool to dress up.

Halloween Cast of Characters

Zeke-our newest addition to the family.
October is here! Halloween is one of our favorite holidays around here. You can tell that by the number of decorations we have. Yesterday Emerson and I started digging into the storage room and pulling out all the fun stuff. Kurt was gone but, the minute he came home, he started rearranging every decoration we had put out to that point. He is truly more into the decorating that I am! Over the years we have accumulated a few figures that get to come out at Halloween time.

Dobson, our butler, all dressed up for the season. He gets to stay out year round. He has a wife named Sadie that we hope to add to our collection someday.

The Count

Granny Apple. She is holding an apple in her hand. If you see it in real life, there are little teeth marks from our niece Riley who was sure that apple was real!

HALLOWEEN (5 DAYS LATER)
Jake & Riley
The 3 nerds (Dayson, Cade and Indy)

Indy
How nice it was to have Halloween on a Friday! No worrying about getting to bed at a decent hour or homework. It got a little crazy at our house. Since we didn't have any doughnuts left over last year, Kurt suggested I make a double batch! (one batch makes about 150!!!!) So I did and, surprisingly, we didn't have that many left again. We probably had about 30 people in our house for part of the night. It was such a nice night that we kept the door open and people just wandered in and out. Thanks to my neighbor Shayne who bought a deep fryer that I was able to use. Two fryers makes the process a whole lot quicker! Although it is a LOT of work, in the end, it is worth it!
