Pie in the face

If you're looking for an easy way to ask someone to a school dance, I've got your answer. Thanks to Laura Bailey for the idea. Fill a pie crust with whipped cream. Send your asker (in our case, it was Emerson) to the door of the intended date. They then say "If you would like to go to Sadie Hawkins with (in our case) Montana, then smash the pie in my face. If not, then smash the pie in your face."
So, as you can see, he said yes! What an easy, quick way to ask to a dance and you don't have to wait for the answer!
(be sure and wear goggles or some other eye protection because, apparently, whippped cream stings in the eyes!)

One of the many reasons I love Utah.

Utah peaches are to die for. I bought a box today and can't stop eating them. There is nothing better than oatmeal with fresh peaches for breakfast. I made a peach crisp for dessert tonight. Tomorrow I may make some homemade freezer jam.

The Braces are gone!

Finally, after 2 1/2 years, the braces came off today. For the record, Indy was the worst when it came to taking care of his teeth with braces on! Just ask Dr. Magness (our dentist and good friend).
Look at that smile! I think he looks like a different kid. I think he actually looks alot more like Finn now. 3 kids down, one more to go. Whew.

Top of Utah

Today, as I type this post, I should have been coming close to the end of my 26.2 run in Logan. Unfortunately, it was not to be this year. Blame it on the IT band once again. I was so pumped up to do this race. I had hopes of improving my time and enjoying the beautiful scenery in Logan. I even signed up clear back in April.
So instead of letting my $80 entry fee go to waste, Kurt and I decided to take a nice drive to Logan last night and at least pick up my race packet and shirt. It is so pretty up there right now. We also stopped in at The Bluebird-a well-known Logan restaurant-and had some dinner. It was a fun night. Nice change for a Friday night date.
Hopefully next year we can eat at The Bluebird again and run the race as well.

Celtic Storm

This year Emerson has been playing soccer with Celtic Storm. She started out playing with them last year but we had to take her out because I couldn't handle 3 kids playing competitive soccer! Unfortunately she was the last man on the totem pole.... The fact that she had no friends on her team to carpool with was a huge factor.
This year she is on the same team as Paige--her BFF! Paige's cousin and Emer's friend Sailor is also on the team. Hallelujah for carpools!

How's that for a spectacular view while watching soccer!

Labor Day

Labor Day weekend this year was truly full of labor! But work at the ranch seems to not be so much of a burden.
There was still some sod that needed to be put down, trees that needed to be staked and the new lawn needed to be cut.
Duke loves all the new grass.
Is that a beautiful scene or what?
Even though there is lots of work to do, there is still time, at the end of the day, to sit on the porch and enjoy the spectacular scenery.

Indecision

My boys and their hair!!!!! I think they spend more time, money and product on their hair than the girls do. (Kurt is included in that group.) So the above picture was Indy a couple weeks ago.
This is Indy yesterday after his haircut. Unfortunately the shadow on the left makes it hard to see the best part----the mullet. Believe me, I did not approve! He thought he was super cool at his soccer game yesterday when everyone made such a fuss about it.
However, when he came home from school today, he wanted to go get that mullet cut off! (thank goodness) He agreed with me that it was ugly. I sure hope we're done with the barber for a few months.

Homecoming 2010

Montana & Mo

Montana and her date Cory Jeffs
They are on the cross country team together.
Montana had to get herself off to the dance all by herself because the rest of our family was out of town. Who plans a school dance on Labor Day weekend? Anyway, Montana had a really fun time. We're sorry we missed all the before-dance hype.

Haircut

BEFORE
AFTER

Yesterday I took Finn to get a haircut. No, it was not my decision. It was his. Not sure why he decided to get his hair cut on picture day----after his pictures were taken! Anyway, I don't mind his hair long but it does get a little unruly after a certain length.

As I was waiting for him, I glanced over and could have sworn I was looking at Kurt sitting there in that chair. From that angle, I was amazed how similar they looked. And people usually tell me that Finn looks like me. Then I was struck by how old he looks all of a sudden. Of course that brought on the teary eyes and the choked-up feelings. It reminded me of being in the temple earlier in the week in a session filled with missionaries. And I know that's where Finn will be in so few years! Hopefully I can learn to live in the moment more and enjoy these fun years with my kids.
